Rice is a staple food in much of the world, but to an unknown percentage of the population it may be consumed in an entirely different manner.

It is food that requires little to no cooking and is an inexpensive ingredient that can make a bunch of different dishes.

But sometimes, people make the wrong rice. 

There are 4 main types of rice: white rice, brown rice, red rice, and black rice.

  • White rice is the most commonly consumed type of rice in the world.
  • Brown rice is considered healthier than white rice because it has not been processed to remove the outer husk.
  • Red rice is a variety of rice that is commonly grown in the south.
  • Black rice is a type of rice with a black, bran-containing seed.

There is a huge difference between white rice and brown rice. White rice is made from polished rice grains such as japonica, indica, and common indica, while brown rice is made from whole rice grains, and polished to remove the bran and germ, leaving just the endosperm.

There is also difference in carbohydrate content since white rice has a high carbohydrate content of about 31% (by weight).

Brown rice has a very low carbohydrate content and is considered being a healthier alternative to white rice.
